The Story
Daisy isn’t a little girl anymore. But her big brother’s best friend, Jack, seems as if he’ll never view her as a responsible woman. Daisy Fielding has been in love with Pastor Jack McCutcheon since childhood, but he can’t see her as anything other than troublesome little “Ditsi Daisy.”
As Daisy volunteers to take responsibility for curbing the teenage angst of the girl’s Bible study group, and assumes the task of coordinating the care of a sick older woman, Jack begins to see her in a new light, a woman with a generous, compassionate, capable and loving heart
Is it possible that Daisy’s childhood crush can bloom into a bouquet of respect…and romance?
The background
In our small town in the early 1950s, the place teenagers hung out, regardless of their religion, was the Congregational Church youth group: high school football heroes, cheerleaders, valedictorians…and dweebs like me, and my best friend. There were social activities and exciting outings. We put on plays and musicals. We raised money and participated in projects to help the community. And of course there was the mandatory bit of Bible study and prayer. After all, it was a church group.
Inspiration
My teenage experience in that youth group is the foundation of the story. But, the inspiration for Daisy are my daughter and all my amazing nieces whose selfless efforts as mothers, wives and independent women reflect the strength that set Daisy apart. And finally, my mother, whose productive, independent life well lived, will always set an example.
